Principal’s Note of the Week: “Nine tenths of education is encouragement.” Anatole France Dear parents, The Swine Flu is in everyone’s minds of late. I want to reassure you that at KZV, all of our staff is reinforcing many of the implemented procedures, such as washing hands to help monitor illnesses at KZV. In order to assist us in our efforts to maintain a "flu free" environment, we are asking for your assistance in preventing the transmission of this virus at school. This calls for increased attention to basic hygiene habits at home and at school. Reinforcing the following health protocols will assist greatly in this prevention strategy:
• Stay home when sick. Students with
flu-like symptoms (i.e. fever of 100 degrees, body aches, cough,
sore throat,
runny/stuffed nose, tiredness, vomiting, and diarrhea) should stay home
and remain home at least 24 hrs. after they no longer have a fever. KZV is committed to providing a clean and safe environment for all students. Our staff will be emphasizing these preventive strategies with your children.
On a more positive note, our teachers are working hard and making lots of growth and constructive changes. The parents have been great, with many new faces stepping forward to help and volunteer. I appreciate all the ways that the parents, the students, and the school are working together to ultimately make KZV such a good school. I have always believed that to make a school better, there has to be a strong ‘community’ component.
This past week, the YerazArt Armenian Young Musician’s performance benefiting KZV was a huge success and our students were thrilled to see them visit our school. We were also honored to have the widow of Hrant Dink, the Agos Newspaper editor who was assassinated in Istanbul 2 years ago, Mrs. Rakel Dink visit our middle school students and speak to them about the current issues pertaining Armenians in Turkey . Tomorrow, our middle school students will also hear Mr. Raffi Hamparian, Armenian National Committee Board member, who will speak to them about the latest development regarding Turkish-Armenian protocols.
As part of our Armenian Cultural Month, the entire school is busy preparing “Shogher”, a cultural program that the students will be performing in honor of the Holy Translator’s Day. This year, this program will be performed Friday October 23rd, at 7:00pm in the Saroyan Hall, to give the opportunity to our parents, grandparents and community members to attend and enjoy the hard work and talent of our children. We sincerely hope that you will appreciate the extra effort that our staff, administration and students are undertaking to make this evening a possibility. The entire KZV community is invited to join this event. Please see the attached flyer.
Please note that, Friday October 30th will be a minimum day. Halloween celebrations and the parade will be held at 11:00am and the students will go into the hall for pizza (graciously provided by the PTA) and treats. Parents are welcome to join in on the festivities and have lunch with us. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon. There will be no day care on that day. We sincerely appreciate your support and understanding.
